Have you ever noticed that some people are  super happy morning people that seem to have it all together, but meanwhile you’re struggling to keep your eyes open?  They are not annoying, I promise! They  probably have done all or some of these 5 tips  for a Productive and Alert Day.

I know, you’re probably sick of all these cliche Monday quotes about seizing the day and being productive. Especially when you can’t seem to figure out how to get going for the day or even the week.  I used to be one of those people, I never considered myself a morning person and couldn’t figure out how to maximize my day and get through my task list. This became extremely frustrating since I am balancing a career as litigation attorney and pursing my love of writing and creating through this blog. I finally found my flow and these 5 tips for a productive day have been extremely helpful in giving me that extra push. I may not have it all together but I have figured out what works for me.  Hopefully these 5 tips for a productive day help you too! Let me know in the comments below. 5 tips for a productive day

1.  Get a full 7 to 8 hours of sleep

This one seems simple, but you’d be surprised how many people are just not getting enough sleep. (you’re probably one of them). I know I wasn’t. I was up until like midnight or later then up at 6am. I would roll out of bed at like 6:30am and then frantically get ready for work so that I would be out of the house by 7am. I was groggy in the morning and struggling to find focus at work. By the time I got home from work, I was still too tired to cook dinner, work on my blog, tackle IG, workout, etc. Once I started getting 7-8 hours of sleep, I felt instantly energized. Even though  I start my day at 5am, I still have energy at the end of the day.

Why is sleep important ? Sleep plays an extremely vital role in our overall mental health and physical health. Proper sleep helps our brain properly function. It is during sleep that we are able to fully prepare for the next day challenges and the new information that we will absorb.  In fact, people who are sleep deficient tend to have trouble making decisions, solving problems, dealing with change, controlling emotions, etc. Which actually makes sense because most people are self-described as “not morning people” are usually extremely irritable in the morning. 2.  Create a Routine

Creating a morning routine is extremely beneficial to have a productive and alert day. For one, it helps with stability and consistency. Knowing that regardless of what happens in the day to throw you off balance, you’ll still start your day having your favorite cup of coffee, reading your favorite book, watching your favorite morning show etc. It is truly comforting to know that throughout the chaos we can still have stability. This type of stability provides more structure in our lives.

My morning routine consist of waking up at 5am. Freshening up and then head to the gym for a 60 minute weight training session. I then head home after the gym and put turkey bacon in the air fryer. While the bacon is in the air fryer, I boil 4 eggs on the stove-top (for me and bae <3).  (I also eat cereal, waffles, or toast with peanut butter and bananas in addition). I head upstairs and stretch using my foam roller. Then I shower, do my make-up, and head back downstairs for breakfast. My bae and I then eat breakfast together and fill our to-go mugs with homemade coffee. While eating breakfast, we are usually  chatting and watching the news. By 7:30am to 7:40am we are both out of the door on our way,  This is perfect for me and creates the stability and structure that I need to have a productive and alert day.

3. Start the Day with a Glass of Water

Water is the drink of life! Seriously, all you really need to quench any thirst is WATER! Our bodies are made up of approximately 6o% water and is consistently trying to maintain water levels. So if you’re not drinking enough water, you may notice the scale go up by like 5 pounds give or take. That is water weight from your body holding on to water to make-up for your lack of water intake.

Drinking water first thing in the morning is important because it helps rehydrate you from the 8 hours you spent not drinking water. Not only does it rehydrate your  body but water will help jumpstart your metabolism and increase your overall alertness. Try keeping a bottle of water on your nightstand and taking some sips first thing!

4. Eat Breakfast

My primary reason for eating breakfast at home is I get to save money and I know exactly what is going inside of my body! Eating breakfast is beneficial for much more that those mentioned. For one, you start you day with carbs. The truth is carbs aren’t this evil thing thing that you aren’t supposed to eat. Reality is you SHOULD eat carbs and carbs do support brain function and help increase your mood. I mean, ever notice how happy pizza makes you feel? Just kidding lol. But seriously. In addition, by eating breakfast first thing you get to control your appetite. You won’t be as hungry for lunch and make poor decisions or overeat. Being well fed and well hydrated are keys to being successful in the morning.

5. Meditate/Set Your Intentions

Maybe working-out isn’t your thing or even it is this may be an added bonus. Start your day with quietness and mediate — what ever that looks like for you. The goal should be to set your intentions for the day and think about how you can be more productive, positive, and alert. What do you need to get done? This is the moment you can come up with a strategic plan to get through your day. Or perhaps you can use the time show gratitude for the day  and all other aspects of your life. Whatever works for you, do it.

 

I hope these tips for a productive and alert day help you overcome anything you’ve been dealing with.My routine may not be your cup of tea and that’s okay! The point is to find something works specifically for you. Own it. Whatever you decide, I guarantee that all or some of this tips will help with your overall well being and productivity.     I loved this post!!! Sometimes I meditate and it gets hard at times because of my thoughts but when that doesn’t work, I definitely workout.

        I am always jealous of people who get to have slow mornings. That is the most hectic insane part of my day lol. My meditations include loudly telling children to brush their teeth, stop fighting and find their shoes. I pray that when I am an empty nester I can have this much calm in the mornings. Right now, its a hurricane!

          It’s much harder to come up with a defined routine when there are kids running around. I think it’s doable, a routine just to be something that works for you

      Im a somewhat happy morning person depending on what the night before brought in store. I generally try to stay upbeat even when everything is falling apart. This was a great article and quite informative

    I always start my day with the glass of water! When I miss it, I sure do notice. These are all great tips and I need to get better about eating breakfast. 🙂
