DIY Body Lava

DIY Body Lava

It is no secret to those who know me that I am a huge Rihanna Stan! How do you not love her? I was one of those girls who eagerly awaited the release of Fenty Beauty. Rihanna is a true innovator and creative mind for providing girls of all shades foundations that match perfectly.  I was one of those girls who had to mix shades of foundation. That said, I do love Fenty Beauty but the newly released Body Lava is far from affordable for the average girl. My girlfriends and I were discussing this in a group chat, and one of the girls mentioned that she created her own a few years ago. She said her highlighter broke into pieces and she didn’t want it to go to waste so she mixed it into some coconut oil.

Once that was said, the light bulb went off and I decided to take a stab at making my own.  Like most other make-up junkies, I had a stash of highlighters that I was no longer using for whatever reason. I went to my local GNC and check out there wide variety of essential body oils. I read the different benefits of each oil and found that Almond Oil is perfect for moisturizing skin.

  • Plastic or glass bottle/container
  • Almond Oil (use whatever oil works for you and your skin type)
  • Highly pigmented highlighters and/or eyeshadow
  • Baked pigmented blush (Optional) I used on from

Start off by pouring a conservative amount of oil into the container. The amount needs to be conservative because if you have too much oil and not enough highlighter the serum won’t work.  It is much better to have too much highlighter than too little.  Use a small spoon or a metal measuring spoon to crush the  the highlighter. Start pouring crushed highlighter into the container.  Halfway through, mix a little bit of the blush. I did this to showcase the undertones of my skin.  Use your judgment to determine when you’ve added enough highlighter then shake the bottle and mix it well.  Pour some on your hand and test it out. Add more highlighter and/or oil as needed.

When you’re wearing it, does it transfer onto clothes/furniture?

Hey Cassandra! No, I haven’t had that issue! But I also haven’t worn it with white.
