Hello 2018! This post is long overdue, but better later than never, right? This year I decided to focus less on goals and more on themes. My 2018 theme is Passion, Purpose, & Health. I fully believe that 2018 is the year of magic and happiness and I believe that these three mantas will be crucial to unlocking the magic of 2018 and stepping into your blessings.
As young adults we are taught to assume a career that will provide both financial stability and some sort of status. Very seldom are we ever taught to assume our passions and to pursue them vehemently. Our passions can be lucrative and fulling, but that isn’t how we are taught to think. We pick majors that correspond to careers. We are told to put away childish things and get a job. The assumption is that we can not have it all. We can not pursue passions that are careers or hold jobs while pursing our passion. Well guess what?
WE CAN HAVE IT ALL.
As Confucius said, “choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” This concept makes sense in theory but it is difficult the execute in real life. Especially when you’re daunted with real life pressures (insert your definition of adulating). Even still, it can be done. To pursue your passion, you must step outside of your own headspace and put adulating to the side. The word passion itself means an emotion that is barely controllable. Can we just conceptualize that for a minute ? What moves you ? What ignites your flame? What is it that brings about an emotion that is barely controllable? Whatever that is, that is your passion.
Passion for Writing
I have a few passions. As a child I was always inquisitive and found my solace in books. I used to get lost in-between pages and imagine the characters as real people. My love for reading translated to a love for writing. I wrote poetry at first and then I moved to short stories and following writing prompts. As you can probably guess, that passion led me to blogging. This year I will work towards expanding my passion. It is my hope that 2018 brings Esquire in Love blessings.
Passion for Law
My second passion is…LAW! Hello, I am Esquire…..in love. I decided on a career in law sometime in the 8th grade. I used to love watching “The Practice” and the characters really inspired me. I never personally knew any lawyers. I was inquisitive, I loved advocating equality and whatever else, I loved writing, and I loved reading. It made sense, naturally. My hope for 2018 is to absorb and learn more about my current industry and grow within my career and my position.
Passion for Fitness
My third passion is fitness. I started running track and ultimately became extremely physically active in the 4th grade. I picked up Track & Field, ballet, tap dancing, Jazz, and competitive cheerleading. I was always participating in something that required some level of physical activity. While I am no longer a competitive athlete, I still have a passion for physical fitness. My hope for 2018 is to push through new fitness goals and increase my weekly activity.
Passion for Fashion
My fourth passion is fashion. ( I honestly didn’t mean to sound that cliche haha). I grew up dreaming that I would be a fashion model and that I would grace the runway during the Victoria Secret’s Fashion Show and landed magazine covers– that never happened! I competed in Beauty Pageants for years to fill that gap– I am still a huge fan of pageants. So to pursue my passion for fashion and modeling, I will use my blog as that avenue. Here, I can pick out looks, pose for pictures, and land the cover of my own blog. My hope for 2018 is to continue expanding that avenue.
Purpose to me is completely spiritual. Purpose, in my opinion, is akin to self care. The definition of Purpose is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. Whether you are a devout Christian or just a person who exist solely in a spiritual realm, your purpose is something that you’ll define by taking an inwardly look into yourself. Purpose is the key for living a truly conscious and happy life.
I do not recall how old I was, but I do recall the night that I realized my purpose. I was child and I woke up in the middle of the night and it suddenly dawned on me–my purpose is to help others. That is what truly drives me. I’ve always been a giver more than I have ever been a taker. I’ve also realized that being helpful or helping isn’t something that exist in a vacuum or can be narrowed. We offer help and inadvertently help others even without realizing it. Determine your purpose and step into your purpose this year. Live purposely.
GET UP AND MOVE!! 2018 should be the year of the move. Whether you’re committing to taking the stairs everyday, going to the gym, doing home workouts, or all three. The point is to get active and start caring for your body. Once you’re more active, you will inadvertently start thinking more about what you’re feeding your body. Health is a domino effect. As daunting as this seems, all you have to do is commit for at least 21 days–It has been suggested that it takes approximately 21 days to pick-up a habit. Health is important for unlocking the magic of 2018, because health strongly correlates with success and positive attitudes. Change your lifestyle for the better and improve your life this year.
The year of passion, purpose, & health is about creating a better version of yourself. A version that is both happy and fulfilled. Be passionate about your life, live purposely, and above it all stay healthy.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
